The Dowager Duchess, Patron of Capel Manor College for many years, officially unveils a remarkable sculpture by renowned artist Ivor Abraham and giving it a new home in the college foyer.
The sculpture is one of a pair created by the artist using modern sculpture techniques, laser printer computer paper and fibreglass.
It was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 2000 and purchased by the then Duke of Devonshire for his wife (the now Dowager Duchess of Devonshire).
It was an 80th birthday present for Her Grace and was smuggled into the Painted Hall at Chatsworth overnight on 30 March 2000 so she could ‘discover’ it on her birthday morning.
The Dowager Duchess, was always fascinated as to how the sculpture was installed in the Painted Hall. The Duke always told her he had it delivered outside and left a trail of corn and found its own way in.
When Her Grace moved to her current home she gifted the sculpture to the College – it is affectionately known as Ivor.
Tottenham Hotspur Football Club is sponsoring its restoration and staging. Work is underway to provide a suitable perch for this remarkable sculpture.
